Diversity Feast & Film 2011, Nov 17

COME JOIN THE MULTIRACIAL BIRACIAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION FOR FOOD AND A MOVIE!

Admission Fee: (1) Canned good per person

Every year, MBSA hosts a huge potluck and movie screening in the Nyumburu Cultural Center to unite the University of Maryland campus community, and discuss pertinent social issues that affect us every day. As we eat, we watch a film that is reflective of the event’s theme, followed by an open, honest dialogue.

This year, our chosen film is “Shades of Ray
American-born Ray Rehman comes home one night to find his Pakistani father on his doorstep. Ray’s Caucasian mother threw him out. It’s an awkward time for his father to move in as Ray just proposed to his Caucasian girlfriend – who hasn’t given him an answer. While trying to get his parents back together, Ray meets a South Asian girl of mixed descent, just like him, and must decide where his identity truly lies.

In conjunction with receiving numerous co-sponsors every year, enjoying delicious cultural food, and watching a thought provoking film, we host a canned food drive in which attendees are admitted upon donating a canned good.

This year we will be donating canned goods to the Capital Area Food Bank.
